What makes St. Francis de Sales Catholic School
different?
From its inception, the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate
Heart of Mary, have staffed St. Francis de Sales. Dedicated lay
teachers comprise the balance of St. Francis’ skilled faculty. As
a Catholic school, religion is a way of life. Christian ideals and
values are integrated into every aspect of the educational
process, providing for a positive environment in which to learn.
At St. Francis de Sales, parents and teachers work together to
focus on the children. It is a “child-centered” and “family
sensitive” community of learning. We believe that :
- Each child is unique and important.
- Each child can and will learn, and each
child requires different amounts of time and practice.
- The most successful children are those
whose parents play an active role in their education.
- Self-esteem is at the heart of successful, happy children.
At St. Francis de Sales, all types of talents are shared and
celebrated. The dignity of each and every child is cherished and
protected. The “Peace Room” encourages and helps students learn to
solve their differences without violence, providing a building
block for positive self-esteem.
What can the school community expect of St. Francis de
Sales Catholic School?
It is our goal at St. Francis de Sales Catholic
School to instill our student body with an enthusiasm for learning
that will continue to grow with them. We believe that by
fulfilling the following expectations, we are laying the groundwork
for our students to envision a future for themselves
filled with unlimited possibilities.
-
Development of the full child with the gift
of roots and wings.
-
Confidence in their studies,
their faith and themselves.
-
Safety and
security, emotionally and physically.
-
Good parent/teacher communication.
-
Excellence in academics.
-
A foundation for further education.
What are the gifts shared among the school, the students,
their families and the neighborhood?
“Christ is the reason for this
school”
-
The church
and school have been active participants in the neighborhood for more than
100 years, and bring continuity into the lives of children
and their families.
-
St. Francis has a committed staff of Religious
and Lay Teachers who care for one another, the children
and their parents.
-
Diversity is celebrated at St. Francis. For example, Eritreans
and Ethiopians, whose countries have been at war since the 1960s,
comprise two of the largest populations at St. Francis. Fighting
has been replaced and friendships formed in study, sports and
after-school activities.
